In the image above, I was green, and I picked 3rd and 4th, since it was a 3-person game. (The order of picks are numbered in the image.) The first two picks grabbed the only decent wood, making my wood option a 2 or a 12. Grr…

I decided to forgo wood entirely, and to start near a sheep port, and on many sheep hexes. Once I grabbed the port, I would be able to make my own lumber. I would need some luck, but it seemed do-able. I felt I was unlikely to finish 1st, but maybe I could at least avoid last place? And then…

Pink decided to go for the same sheep port! They picked an edge hex, 4-wheat-8-sheep, to try and muscle me out and grab the sheep port for themselves. This looked very likely because — as I mentioned!— I didn’t have wood to assist in building towards the port.

Pink didn’t have any other sheep hexes, so going for a sheep port was odd, but I suppose at least they now had every type of resource now, except for rock.

Once opening positions were secured, the game began…

Within a few minutes Pink had grabbed the port. I was irritated, and said as much in the chat. I didn’t swear or insult, I just said that I was surprised that they wanted that port so badly.
